Season of the Winter Witch
A special seasonal facial for the cooler months, combining the magic of juniper and the vibes of forest fairies for an immersive facial experience.
Juniper Functions
Botnia’s juniper hydrosol is distilled from fresh juniper needles wildcrafted in New Mexico in a small seasonal batch (fun fact - it is from Botnia’s CEO Justine’s moms’ farm outside Santa Fe!). Juniper functions by accelerating cellular turnover, thanks to juniperic acid. This acid functions similarly to glycolic acid. In addition to fighting bacteria on the skin, it also fights inflammation.
Juniperic acid is a very gentle exfoliating acid that liquifies the bonds of dead skin cells to allow them to slough off more easily. This acid exists in waxy deposits of the outer coatings of juniper needles. Rooted in the desert, this acid protects the tree from the harsh climate. We are bringing this essence of protection from the trees to your skin.
Your barrier this winter
In the wintertime, it is important to not only emphasize hydration but also exfoliation. You might experience a tight and sensitive sensation with dryness and flakiness as the air loses moisture. Additionally, moving between the cold outside winds to the dry indoor heating will further effect your skin barrier. The oils that make up your natural skin barrier are stripped, causing your barrier to have difficulties holding in hydration. My clients with eczema and psoriasis may experience an increase in flares this season.
Cooler temperatures will slow down the rate of cellular turnover, causing dead skin cells to accumulate more quickly. This will leave you with a congested but tight and stripped sensation (literally the worst feeling ever).
While your skin is in a sensitive state, you will want to be gentle with exfoliation. Juniper is a great option since it contains the natural alpha hydroxy acid of juniperic acid.

To celebrate the season of juniper, I wanted to create a more immersive experience surrounding the fresh pine scent of this special plant. This will be a gently exfoliating facial experience with juniper incorporated into multiple parts of your facial - from frequent gentle misting to juniper mask blends.
In order to create more of an experience beyond creating an entire facial utilizing juniper in multiple parts, I wanted to celebrate the essence of a forest facial. When listening to forest-inspired playlists to gain insipiration, much of it contained songs with gentle melodies making you feel as though you’re in a Disney movie.
I created a playlist with a forest fairy inspiration to go along with this whimsical theme and I have adjusted my mood lighting to utilize the deep forest greens and have added eucalpytus to my steamed towels to create a deeply grounding experience.
This facial experience will be available from November 1st through December 31st. I look forward to treating you to a unique and grounding experience to escape the city and holiday grind!
